A substitute for most of the 2010-11 campaign, the ex-Lech Poznan man had a break-out year, with 30 goals in 47 games this season as BVB won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.

Dortmund are keen to extend his contract past its current expiration in 2014, but his agent has announced that the club's terms are insufficient."The offer from Dortmund is not enough. I can confirm interest from Manchester United in Robert," agent Maik Barthel told Bild.

Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance during Saturday's DFB-Pokal final between Dortmund and Bayern, lending credence to reports of Manchester United's interest in Shinji Kagawa, who scored and made an assist in Dortmund's 5-2 win. But Ferguson was apparently interested as well in Lewandowski, who netted a hat-trick in that match.

However, although he admitted that Kagawa will be difficult to retain, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has vowed to retain Lewandowski under any circumstances.

"Other players [aside from Kagawa] we would not sell for all the money in the world," he said.
