Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has dismissed reports linking him with a move to Barcelona but has remained silent on his future at Stamford Bridge.The Ivorian veteran spoke ahead of Saturday night’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich but dodged queries about whether it would be his last game as a Blues player.
The 34-year-old Ivorian has been a crucial part of the Chelsea side for eight seasons since joining from Marseille but his current contract comes to an end this summer and neither party appear able to agree to terms.
Drogba, who scored in his side’s 1-0 first-leg semi-final win over Barcelona last month, preferred to concentrate on Saturday night’s Champions League final with Bayern Munich when asked about the contract situation.
Drogba told reporters on Friday afternoon: “Tomorrow's game is so important, we've waited four years, so my future and contract is not what's important.
“There are a lot of rumours about me and Barca - it's not true. The excitement of the Champions League is more important than this.”
He told reporters: “I want to enjoy the game but tomorrow the most important thing will be to win. I am happy because we are in a Champions League final.The Blues face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena - the home stadium of their opponents - and Drogba believes Chelsea’s sixth-placed Premier League finish will be forgotten if they win on Saturday night.
“Nobody expected us to reach the final but now we are here we will do everything to win it.
“Bayern have a great manager with experience. He did a lot for Bayern and I have a lot of respect for him.
“We had a difficult season and have had critics. We're a big team and when we don't perform, we will be criticised.
“If we win it tomorrow, everyone will say it was a fantastic season. They will only remember that we won the cup.”
Chelsea captain John Terry will not play a part in the final because of his red card in the second-leg of their semi-final clash with Barcelona and Drogba admitted he will be sorely missed.
“JT trained with us & is here with us. We're disappointed he cannot play but we will do everything to make him happy," he said.“We're playing away but it's a final so I don't think we'll focus on that. Most important is to be here and to win.”
