The Dutchman, who was heavily linked with a switch to Manchester United last summer, has admitted that he was presented with the opportunity to move to Russia earlier this month.

The Russian outfit's coach, Luciano Spalletti, announced earlier this month that he was keen on signing the Dutchman and the player has now confirmed that an approach was made.

"They [Zenit] were prepared to go really far in order to sign me,” Sneijder told Voetbal International. “There was absolutely nothing wrong with their offer.

“However, I don't think this is the right moment for me to leave Inter.”

Sneijder, who was heavily tipped to move to Manchester United last summer, has also been linked with another Russian outfit, Anzhi Makhachkala, in recent weeks.

The Netherlands international played a key role in Inter's treble triumph in 2009-10 but current Nerazzurri coach Claudio Ranieri again reiterated on Sunday that he is still not sure how best to deploy the former Real Madrid man within his starting lineup.

"I will have to make a choice here. We can not afford to play with Sneijder and two attackers, because we then miss someone in midfield," Ranieri said to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Sneijder is not a problem for Inter though, but a solution instead. We will have to use him at the right moment. We can pick ourselves up again in the match against Marseille."
