The focus of the soccer world has been soundly on the UEFA Champions League for the last week, and rightly so. The knockout stages of that tournament produce high drama every year, and the round of 16 to this point has been brilliant to watch.
Unfortunately for the purposes of this list of top American players, that competition is utterly irrelevant.
There were, however, a couple of competitions that did involve several top American players. The FA Cup, which easily could have featured three of the top four, only featured one. The Europa League also had a premier matchup of Sacha Kljestan's Anderlecht against Jozy Altidore's AZ side, but that match really didn't do a lot for either of those two players in terms of how they're viewed on the list.
With no real standout performances to look at, the rankings will stay the same for another week. Luckily, with U.S. national team matches and the opening of MLS play on the horizon, things should be picking up shortly.
