Rangers need EIGHT clubs to back their return to the SPL next season.Owner-in-waiting Green is at the mercy of top-flight clubs after Gers crashed into liquidation.
But there are fears they could be forced to start in the Third Division.
Green said: “Let there be no doubt my first priority is Rangers. But I’m equally concerned about Scottish football.
“If Rangers are suspended there is no Sky TV contract.
“There would be no Old Firm derbies. There would be no revenue for the smaller clubs when Rangers turn up.
“The knock-on effect from that would be catastrophic for Scottish football.”
Gers face a series of devastating blows after HMRC vetoed a life-saving CVA yesterday.
They won’t be allowed to play in Europe for FOUR years and will have to plead to be allowed back into the SPL.
They will also have to ask the SFA to be readmitted.
And they could lose top stars for nothing under employment rules.
Green added: “I am hugely disappointed by the decision of HMRC.
“That disappointment will be felt acutely by Rangers fans across the world.”
SPL chief Neil Doncaster has revealed the vital vote may take place before the league’s AGM on July 16.
And his SFL counterpart David Longmuir has admitted the clubs have one of their toughest-ever calls.
Longmuir said: “It is a hugely difficult set of circumstances the SPL chairmen have to deal with.
“I know many of them and I know they will have to give this serious thought.
“I have been part of difficult decisions in the past and these are the most trying and testing decisions you ever have to make in football.
“Making decisions which affect the future of a club, and the whole of the game in Scotland is a crucial decision they have to make.
“This will be up there with one of the biggest decisions we have faced in our game.”
