Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is expected to put pen to paper on a new contract worth £5 million-a-year after returning from talks with the club’s owners in Abu Dhabi.
Former Inter manager ready to extend his current deal which will tie him to the Premier League champions until 2015 after talks with the club's owners in Abu Dhabi.
The City manager agreed an extension to his current deal - which expires in June 2013 - during face-to-face talks with owner Sheikh Mansour and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak following the club’s Premier League triumph.
Both parties are believed to be happy with the agreement and all that remains is to sort out the minor details, which could be completed before Mancini heads to Sardinia for a family holiday on Friday.
we revealed earlier this month that City were planning to offer the Italian a three-year contract worth £15m, a considerable upgrade on his current deal worth £3.5m-a-year before bonuses.
In March, Goal.com reported that Mancini told City chiefs before Christmas he was willing to open talks over an extension to his contract but the Italian was instructed that negotiations would not begin until the summer.
After taking a calculated gamble by delaying talks with Mancini to protect themselves from having to pay a huge compensation fee were he to be dismissed, Sheikh Mansour and Al Mubarak decided to back the 47-year-old following the team’s dramatic title victory.
Mancini was in Abu Dhabi along with first-team coach David Platt, director of football administration Brian Marwood and acting chief executive John MacBeath.
It is believed that talks were also held over City’s targets for the summer transfer window, headed by Lille attacker Eden Hazard, Arsenal striker Robin van Persie and Milan defender Thiago Silva.
